Capability statement
A capability statement is two pages that summarise your company for a procurement reviewer at an oil company or an EPC contractor: what you do, which certificates you hold, your safety record, your equipment and your recent similar work. It goes to the vendor-registration portal as a PDF, or by email with a bid.

What do reviewers in Iraq look for?
Most templates published online are American, built around NAICS codes, CAGE numbers and US federal contracting. Oil companies in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region do not normally ask for those fields. A prequalification reviewer asks for registration, certificates, safety figures, equipment and recent work, and the two pages follow that order:
| Section | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Header | The legal name in Arabic and English, spelled exactly as on every other document; the logo; federal and/or Kurdistan Region registration numbers; a named contact. |
| Summary | Two or three sentences: what you do, for whom, and where. |
| Core services | 5 to 8 services, in the words the client uses in its tenders. |
| Certificates | Standard, issuer, number, scope and expiry, for each certificate. |
| HSE | Man-hours, lost-time injuries (LTI) and TRIR for the last 3 years, with the basis of calculation. |
| Equipment and facilities | Key units: owned or leased, capacity, year. |
| Recent similar work | 4 to 6 projects from the last 3–5 years: client descriptor, scope, year. Client names only with written permission. |
| People | Headcount, share of Iraqi staff, key personnel. |
| Footer | Issue date and revision number, so the reviewer knows the figures are current. |
How is it different from a company profile?
A company profile introduces the company in 12–20 pages. A capability statement is two pages that summarise you for a procurement reviewer, uploaded to the vendor portal or emailed. The figures in both must be the same.
| Capability statement | Company profile | |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 2 pages | 12–20 pages |
| Reader | Procurement and prequalification reviewer | Management, partners and the reviewer |
| When it is used | Portal upload, attached to a bid | Meetings, introductions, prequalification packs |
| Format | A4 PDF, under 2 MB | A print version and a light PDF |
Mistakes we see often
- An expired certificate still listed.
- “Zero incidents” with no period and no man-hours.
- Figures that differ from the portal questionnaire or the profile.
- A machine-translated Arabic version under the English one.
- Pages scanned as images, so nothing can be searched or copied.
- A file larger than the portal accepts.
The format to hand over
- A4, two pages, real text rather than images.
- A PDF under 2 MB.
- Two versions, Arabic and English, or one bilingual version at the same standard.
- A clear file name, such as Company_Capability_Statement_2026.pdf.
- An editable template, so you can update the figures each quarter.
